Amy offers a warm, person-centred approach to therapy that is guided by her values of authenticity, compassion, non-judgement, collaboration and curiosity. Amy has a holistic approach to therapy that seeks to deeply understand and respect each person as an individual, and to support each person in accessing their own innate wisdom and strengths for moving toward wellbeing, healing, and personal growth.
Amy’s practice is trauma informed and neuro-affirming, and is informed by a range of evidence-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Amy also integrates trauma-based approaches, including parts work (Internal Family Systems), somatic techniques, and attachment-focused therapies into her practice. Amy now also offers EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy.
Amy’s previous experience has been diverse, providing her with opportunities to develop skills in a broad range of areas. This includes having worked at a private mental health unit, providing support and skills training to inpatients and outpatients seeking support for significant mental health challenges, and working in a public health service focused on providing family-based therapy for youth with eating disorders. Amy also has experience practicing in long-term private psychotherapy with adults experiencing a range of interpersonal and mental health challenges. Prior to gaining her registration as a psychologist, Amy worked as a PhD qualified academic researcher in the fields of body dysmorphic disorder and anorexia nervosa, and is still involved with research work in these areas.
In her spare time, Amy enjoys spending time with her dog Aurora, growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, practising yoga, and spending time outside in the sunshine.
Amy is currently training her Swiss shepherd dog, Aurora, who will be joining her in therapy sessions soon!
