Kellie is an experienced psychologist new to the Mullum Road Warrandyte team. Her areas of interest and experience include counselling children, young people and young adults, supporting parents, assessment (cognitive, autism and ADHD) and running workshops and presentations. Kellie enjoys building relationships, believing that understanding and respect is the basis for personal growth and wellbeing. Winnie, Kellie’s therapy dog in training, will be instrumental in helping create this bond. Kellie draws from a range of therapeutic strategies, including talking therapy (using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or ‘CBT’) and play-based techniques, to empower others to cope and flourish with life’s challenges and interests. Sessions are strength-based and future-focussed.
Kellie has worked with issues from trauma, stress, mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression, and concerns around coping with change and school avoidance. She works hard to be affirming of neurodiversity, sexuality and gender diversity, differences in intellectual ability (both intellectual disability and giftedness) and learning difficulties. Her Master in Education focused on motivation and metacognition in learning, particularly for gifted and autistic young people, so building success in learning is a priority. Kellie has been a keen ally of Pride Groups for many years so warmly welcomes LGBTQIA+ clients. Her assessment skills are well-developed and she enjoys working with the client and parents to better understand the results. Kellie values and depends upon evidence-based practice, drawing from expertise from various memberships including: Australian Psychological Society (APS), Dogs in School Counselling network (DISCO), Victorian Association of Gifted and Talented Children (VAGTC) and Autism Spectrum Australia (ASPECT). Kellie is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Kellie’s hobbies include running, walking and volunteering at ‘parkrun’ with Winnie, time at the beach, reading and spending time with her family. She also dabbles in learning to play the piano.
