Nico is dedicated to offering you a warm, open, and non-judgmental space to explore your concerns in a compassionate, curious, and collaborative way.
Nico has over seven years of experience in working with mental health, having engaged with individuals across diverse age groups and backgrounds in a range of settings, including community mental health, education, and helplines. More recently, this included working as a psychologist with young people, their parents/caregivers, and schools.
Nico (they/them pronouns) is a registered psychologist with AHPRA. They hold a Master of Clinical Psychology from La Trobe University, and an Advanced Graduate Diploma of Psychology from the University of Melbourne. Their professional journey is complemented by a background in art and design, and they love to integrate art into their therapeutic practice whenever it feels helpful.
Nico has a holistic approach to therapy that is strength-based, person-led, and incorporates a range of different evidence-based therapies (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). They are also informed by trauma-based practices such as schema, parts work, and somatic therapies. Where relevant, they find it valuable to explore the systemic and structural power systems that a person exists within, and the ways we respond to these systems. They are an advocate of the Power Threat Meaning framework.
Nico is fluent in Spanish and part of the Latin American community. They are passionate about cultural inclusivity, and work hard to understand and affirm their client's intersecting identities, including BIPOC, asylum seeker, refugee, immigrant, LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent individuals. They are experienced at working with people of diverse sexes, sexualities, genders, and relationship structures, such as monogamy and polyamory.
In their free time, Nico loves to cook, read dystopian fiction, ride bikes, pat stranger's dogs, do arty things, spend time in nature, and cuddle with their cocker spaniel Rudy. They are excited to have joined the Mullum Road Clinic team and to get to work surrounded by so many fluffy friends.
