Shelley Hua
Provisional Psychologist
Shelley is a provisionally registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA). She has completed her Master of Professional Psychology with the Cairnmillar Institute. She also holds a Master of Crosscultural Communications from the University of Sydney.
Shelley is a genuine and compassionate clinician who thrives in working holistically with people with complex histories, co-occurring challenges and strengths. She is committed to providing person-centred, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming care, working with people to find their place, build their lives and reach their goals.
She has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, adults and their families with neurodevelopmental, physical and psychosocial disability. She takes a collaborative and creative approach to honour clients’ strengths and bolster their supports, while taking opportunities to improve cohesion across their lives. Shelley works to advocate for clients where possible and provide psychoeducation to families, schools and support people.
She is also trained and experienced with working with complex trauma and dissociation, including those living with Dissociative Identity Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. Her strength lies in the capacity to sit with complexity and accompany clients to navigate an often disjointed and unforgiving world in the context of childhood trauma and long-term adversity. She also has diverse experiences working with clients with relationship difficulty, adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, alcohol and substance use, and forensic histories.
Shelley has worked in a range of contexts including private practice, in an NDIS organisation, in schools and in the community.
Prior to training to become a psychologist, she enjoyed a career in the Australian public service making information accessible to the general public, improving service delivery and advocating for the importance of sensible, meaningful information and services.
In her spare time, Shelley enjoys reading, spending time with her dog Evie, and continually learning.
